A re-release adds three post-credit scenes, and the final one borrows Iron Man's own origin imagery to hint at how Doctor Doom might have come to be.
The re-release added new footage, and it's the ending that's got fans replaying frames on their phones outside the multiplex. Avengers: Endgame Encore closes with three post-credit scenes, and the last one, according to Koimoi's reporting, draws a direct visual line between Tony Stark and Robert Downey Jr.'s next role, Doctor Doom.
Here's the detail. The original Endgame ended its credits with a hammer-and-anvil sound, a small tribute to the Iron Man workshop. Encore keeps that sound but changes what it's attached to. Three hits land, and instead of Stark's armour, we get a mask being shaped out of the flames. By the third hit, it's unmistakably Doom's.
That's not a small callback. Stark built his first suit in a cave, alone, after being taken by terrorists. Doom, this scene suggests, might be forging his own identity in circumstances that rhyme with that origin, minus the machinery. Where Stark reached for tech, this version of Victor von Doom could be reaching for magic instead.
The theory making the rounds, and it's a theory, not a confirmed plot point, goes further. It floats the idea that this Doom comes from a universe where Tony Stark never existed at all, with Victor filling a similar role by different means. Doom's mask, in the comics, has always hidden a disfigured face. If the MCU keeps that, the scene teases how the damage happened, possibly during whatever event also cost him his mother.
The Doomsday trailer adds fuel here. There's a mural showing a young boy close to a woman who appears to be his mother, and Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm gets a line about him: she knew he was lost, she says, but hadn't realised how broken he was. Doom himself tells the Avengers that all of them have been living stolen lives, a line delivered as Eternity, Cassie and Franklin appear on screen. Read together, it points at an incursion, one that possibly wiped out Doom's world, Earth-828, after a decision by Steve Rogers set it in motion.
None of this is locked in. Koimoi's piece is careful to flag that the Encore scene doesn't confirm Doom is a literal Stark variant, it just builds a deliberate parallel between the two men and their beginnings. Marvel has kept Doomsday's actual plot mostly sealed, and post-credit scenes have misled fans before.
What's certain is the timing. Endgame Encore is doing its job as a runway into Avengers: Doomsday, stacking hints scene by scene rather than confirming a single storyline outright. Whether Downey Jr.'s Doom turns out to be a mirror of Stark or something stranger is now the question Marvel has to answer when Doomsday actually arrives.
