Epic Games unveiled the key art for its annual horror crossover event, with a Beetlejuice skin and a nod to The Purge landing alongside the usual pile of original spooky designs.

Epic Games dropped the key art for this year's Fortnitemares event on Monday, and the collab list reads like a horror aisle at a video store that shouldn't exist anymore. Five Nights at Freddy's, Beetlejuice, Freddy Krueger, Slender Man, The Purge and Black Clover are all confirmed for skins players can buy with V-Bucks once the event goes live this Thursday, October 1.

Fortnitemares happens every year around Halloween, and Epic uses it to turn the battle royale map into a temporary haunted house, complete with new locations and challenges tied to whichever licenses it has locked down. This time the marquee pull looks to be Freddy Krueger, and per JoBlo's reporting, the design appears to draw on the classic Robert Englund look rather than the 2010 remake version played by Jackie Earle Haley. That's a meaningful distinction for anyone who's spent actual money arguing about A Nightmare on Elm Street canon on forums.

Beyond the big licensed names, Epic is also rolling out original horror-themed skins built for the occasion. There's a doll-like riff on Alice in Wonderland, a stitched-together patchwork figure, a red-eyed geisha design, and something JoBlo described as a cross between Venom and Tron, all robot and menace. Epic's original Fortnitemares work has built a reputation over the years for standing shoulder to shoulder with the licensed characters instead of feeling like filler, and this year's crop seems built on the same formula.

One name floating around that isn't locked in yet is Chucky from Child's Play. Mock-ups have surfaced online, but with AI-generated character art now cheap and easy to fake, nobody's treating those images as confirmation until Epic actually ships the skin in-game. Worth remembering that additional collabs sometimes get added mid-event too, so the Thursday lineup isn't necessarily the whole story.

What's notable here is the range Epic pulled together in one go. FNAF brings in the animatronic horror crowd that's been massive with younger players for years, Beetlejuice and The Purge pull from mainstream studio horror, and Freddy Krueger and Slender Man cover the older internet-horror and slasher fandoms in one sweep. That's a wide net for a single seasonal update, and it's the kind of crossover density that tends to get the in-game item shop trending the moment it goes live.

For now, players get two more days of waiting. Fortnitemares 2026 opens Thursday, and the real test will be whether the map changes and challenges hold up as well as the skin lineup does. Whether Chucky actually shows up, or whether that was just a well-made fake doing the rounds, should become clear soon enough once the event is live and dataminers get to work.
