Godzilla Minus Zero lands in Indian theatres on November 20, a date carefully chosen to sidestep the Ramayana juggernaut. The film, which swept the Oscars for Best Visual Effects in its first outing, arrives two weeks after its global release — November 6 in North America, November 3 in Japan, and now gets its own IMAX window in India.
That’s not accidental. With Ramayana locking down premium screens for a full two-week run starting November 5, the shift avoids a direct clash between two massive spectacles vying for limited IMAX space. Both films are built for the big screen, and India’s IMAX footprint remains tight. So Godzilla Minus Zero steps back, not out of weakness, but strategy.
It’s a sequel set in 1949, picking up two years after the last film’s devastation. The Shikishima family, still reeling from the past, faces a new threat: Godzilla, bigger, bolder, and more destructive than ever. Takashi Yamazaki, the Oscar-winning director behind the original, returns with what’s being called the first Japanese film shot specifically for IMAX.
The tone is grim, grounded, no sugar-coating the cost of survival. For Indian audiences who’ve been waiting, November 20 is now the date. No more speculation. Just the roar.
