Godzilla Minus Zero delayed in India to November 20 Due to Ramayana's IMAX Exclusivity
Godzilla Minus Zero is finally coming to Indian theatres — but not on November 6, as originally expected. The film, long anticipated for a global release on that date, now faces a delay, with trade sources confirming it’s likely to open in India on November 20. The reason? Ramayana, the Tamil epic directed by S. Shankar, has secured a two-week IMAX exclusivity window across the country.
This isn’t just a scheduling preference, it’s a strategic move backed by distribution logic. PVR INOX Pictures, the film’s Indian distributor, shared the first official poster yesterday, October 27, and included the phrase ‘Filmed for IMAX’, a clear signal that the movie was designed for premium screens. That detail alone sets the stage: Godzilla Minus Zero is not just a theatrical release.
It’s an IMAX event. So is Ramayana. And so is The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping, which also arrives on November 20. Three films, all built for high-end formats, all vying for screen time in the same week.
The math doesn’t add up. A trade source told Bollywood Hungama that because Ramayana holds exclusive rights to IMAX screens for two weeks starting November 5, Godzilla Minus Zero will almost certainly follow, possibly on November 20. But there’s still room for negotiation. The source noted that PVR INOX is considering whether to push the film to November 13 instead, though no final decision has been made.
An official announcement is expected soon. What’s already settled is the limited rollout: at most IMAX venues, Godzilla Minus Zero will get just one show, while the bulk of screening slots will go to Ramayana. This arrangement reflects the prioritisation of local blockbusters in premium spaces. Fans, who had spent nearly two weeks wondering if the film would even reach Indian screens after months of silence, are relieved.
The confirmation, however tentative, ends speculation. One industry insider added that Ramayana’s momentum could be strong into its third week, making the competition for screens even tighter. With three major films entering the fray at once, the challenge isn’t just about dates, it’s about space, timing, and audience attention. The real test begins on November 5.
Until then, the countdown continues.
