Eight arrested in Mumbai gold and diamond smuggling raid at CSMIA. DRI says the haul — Rs 12.64 crore in gold, Rs 1.10 crore in diamonds, was hidden in egg-shaped wax capsules. The operation began with a tip about S.K. Ansari, a ground staff member at a food outlet inside the terminal. He was caught trying to hand over the contraband to M.S.L. Balli, a passenger bound for Dubai. During searches, officials found three capsules. Each shaped like an egg, wrapped in wax, and believed to contain gold. That led to the arrest of four Bangladeshi and two Sri Lankan nationals linked to the syndicate. No further details on the network’s reach or how long it had been active. The seized goods are being held for forensic evaluation. The case is now under investigation by DRI Mumbai. No charges have been filed yet. The airport remains open. No disruption reported.
