"Bhot si baatein aasman mein likh di gayi hain," he said, according to Filmfare. "Main maayi se prarthana karta hoon ki woh clean-up ho aur Govinda use clean-up kar paaye." Loosely, a lot has been written in the sky, and he's praying it gets wiped clean, so he can do the wiping himself.
That's it. That's the statement.
He didn't say Sunita. He didn't say Komal Rani Swarnkar. He didn't say divorce, and he didn't say affair. What he did say was that he wants his supporters to stick around the way the crowd in front of him had.
"Aap log ka sahyog chahiye, saath chahiye," he told them. "Theek waise hi sahyog aur saath chahiye jaise yahan par dekhne ko milega."
The timing tells its own story, even if the actor won't. Sunita Ahuja has reportedly accused her husband of 39 years of an affair with Komal Rani Swarnkar, a claim Govinda has not confirmed. He's previously told her, according to earlier reports, to stay within her limits, which is its own kind of non-denial. Neither of them has laid out the allegations in detail in public, and nothing here has been tested anywhere that matters. So for now, this stays exactly what it is: an accusation on one side, a riddle on the other, and a marriage of nearly four decades caught somewhere in between.
What makes Saturday's appearance notable isn't the content. It's that Govinda chose to say anything at all. He's had ample opportunity to stay quiet, and largely has, letting his team issue denials on his behalf, including one from his manager last week dismissing talk of a second marriage. This was different. This was him, on a stage, in front of cameras, choosing his words with the kind of care that suggests he knew exactly how they'd be picked apart.
Whether "clean-up" means a statement, a reconciliation, or a formal response to Sunita's claims, he didn't say. Fans in the comments have already started reading tea leaves, and the actor's silence on specifics is likely to keep that going for a while yet.
The next move, if there is one, probably won't come from a festival stage. It'll need a name attached to it.
