The actor called the Lalbaugcha Raja visit a promotional trip for his upcoming film, even as Rakhi Sawant publicly urged him to make peace with wife Sunita Ahuja.
Govinda says he was only praying for his next release. Speaking to ANI, the actor addressed the chatter around a video of him at the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal with Komal Rani, his co-star in the upcoming Roopa, and framed the outing as something close to a lucky charm.
"Main Roopa film ke liye prarthana kar raha tha," he said, pointing out he'd done this before. He went with Karisma Kapoor once, he said, and that film worked. He went with Raveena Tandon another time, same result. This time it's Komal Rani's turn, and he's hoping the pattern holds.
He didn't hide his irritation with how much traction the video got either. "Pata nahi kya logo ko kasht hai," he asked, wondering why people were making a story out of something so early in a film's life. If the visit is getting him and the project noticed, he said, he doesn't see the problem.
Rakhi Sawant wants a reunion
Not everyone was ready to let it go as a promotional footnote. Rakhi Sawant posted a string of videos on Instagram directly appealing to Govinda over the optics of the outing. She wasn't shy about naming names either, at one point asking who exactly this "Rupa, Komal" woman was and why he hadn't taken Sunita Ahuja instead.
"Apni biwi ko le ke jana chahiye, jiske sath aap 40 saal gujare," she said, reminding him of four decades with his wife. In a separate clip she went further, calling on him to patch things up entirely. "Subh ka bhula shaam ko ghar aa jaye to usko bhula nahi kehte," she said, asking him to let bygones be bygones.
The timing isn't incidental. This all comes after Sunita Ahuja made a pointed remark to paparazzi comparing the loyalty of animals with that of humans, a line that's been read as directed at her husband. Around the same window, Krushna Abhishek's wife Kashmera Shah put up a cryptic Instagram note touching on heartbreak and infidelity, without naming anyone.
Worth noting: Govinda has separately pushed back hard against a different strand of speculation altogether, threatening legal action worth Rs 100 crores over what he's called false reports about his marriage and a supposed divorce, and flagging deepfakes and AI-generated content circulating about him. That's a different fire from the Lalbaugcha Raja video, but the two are clearly feeding off each other in the same news cycle.
For now, nobody involved, Govinda, Sunita or Rakhi, has said anything that confirms a marriage in trouble beyond speculation and social media reaction. Whether Roopa's promotional run cools this down or keeps stirring it depends on what Govinda does next, and whether Sunita Ahuja says anything more herself.
