One of India's most innovative filmmakers, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has gained recognition for his work, and now Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has praised his most recent film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, which stars Alia Bhatt. It "felt like a Martin Scorsese film," according to Gordon-Levitt. In a statement, he shared, “It was different than really anything I'd seen because it was this very heavy, distinguished drama.”

The American actor, who is currently in India for the IFP season 14 hosted by Rajkummar Rao, said that he was "eager to learn more about Indian cinema" after seeing Sanjay Leela Bhansali's masterwork, comparing it to losing himself in a Martin Scorsese movie, according to Hindustan Times.
He remarked, "It was unlike anything I'd seen at all because it was this really serious, elegant drama that at points felt almost like a Scorsese film." He continued by saying that he was especially moved by the lovely musical sections, which he thought were sincere and expertly composed, leaving him fascinated by the complete experience.
