The M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025 puts her family's Rs 7,790 crore fortune, built largely on Knight Riders Sports, well ahead of two of Bollywood's biggest names.
Shah Rukh Khan tops the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025's Bollywood table, no surprise there. What's less obvious, buried a couple of rows down, is that Juhi Chawla's family wealth of Rs 7,790 crore comfortably outstrips Hrithik Roshan's Rs 2,160 crore and Karan Johar's Rs 1,880 crore added together, according to Bollywood Hungama's reading of the report.
Chawla hasn't led a Hindi film in years. Her money comes from somewhere else entirely: Knight Riders Sports, the entity behind Kolkata Knight Riders, which she co-owns with husband Jay Mehta and Shah Rukh Khan. It's a reminder that on this list, screen time counts for a lot less than what you own.
SRK himself sits at the top with a reported Rs 12,490 crore, his fortune tied to Red Chillies Entertainment, which has long since stopped being just a production house and turned into a sprawling entertainment business spanning VFX, television and digital content. That number alone is bigger than what the next four names on the list add up to.
Hrithik Roshan comes in third at Rs 2,160 crore, his wealth credited to HRX, the fitness and lifestyle label he built out from his own brand. It's the clearest example on this list of an actor turning personal image into a standalone consumer business, separate from any film he's signed.
Karan Johar, fourth with Rs 1,880 crore, remains anchored to Dharma Productions. Unlike Chawla or Roshan, his wealth is still tied closely to the entertainment industry itself rather than a business built to run independent of it.
Amitabh Bachchan closes out the top five at Rs 1,630 crore, and here the Hurun table lists his category simply as investments, not a brand or a production house. At 83, Bachchan's wealth story looks less like a diversification play and more like decades of accumulated capital sitting in the market.
Add up all five entries and you get Rs 25,950 crore in reported Bollywood wealth, according to the list. What it says, more than any single number, is how thoroughly the old idea of a film star's net worth being tied to per-film fees has broken down. Sports franchises, fitness labels, production banners and straightforward investment portfolios now do as much heavy lifting as any theatrical release.
Hurun's methodology and the exact basis for these valuations haven't been detailed beyond what's been reported so far. Whether next year's list reshuffles this order, particularly with KKR's own valuation swings and Red Chillies' expanding slate, is the open question worth watching.
