Karan Johar is stepping into mythological territory — not with a romantic drama, but with a superhero. Dharma Productions has greenlit Gadadhari Bheem, a sci-fi-infused retelling of the Mahabharata’s Bhima, with Abhishek Varman on board as writer and co-creator. The film marks a sharp pivot for Varman, best known for 2 States and Kalank, who’s now diving into a modern mythological spectacle. No cast has been confirmed yet, but sources say they’re eyeing an A-list lead. This isn’t just a genre shift, it’s a full-scale rebranding of what Dharma might be aiming for next. Johar, long associated with star-studded romances and high-gloss dramas, is reportedly also developing a standalone film on Radha and Krishna, written by Sachin Ravi. That project is still in script phase. Meanwhile, Dharma is also backing Naagzilla, a monster movie from Mrighdeep Singh Lamba (Fukrey series), starring Kartik Aaryan, Preity Mukhundhan, and Ravi Kishan. No release date set. And yes. This is happening while Johar announces that Koffee with Karan will end after this season. The timing feels less like coincidence and more like a quiet exit strategy. The real question isn’t whether he’ll make these films, it’s whether audiences will believe in a mythic universe built by the man who once made My Name Is Khan feel like a Bollywood love story.
