Daayra, the Meghna Gulzar film that puts them on opposite sides of a police investigation, opens in theatres on September 18, and the team used the last stretch before release to meet media and college students in the capital.
Gulzar, a National Award-winning director, has built Daayra around true events, though the specifics of which case inspired it haven't been spelled out in the film's promotional rounds so far. What's clear from the setup is the central tension: Kapoor and Sukumaran play officers pulling in different directions on the same case, each convinced they're the one fighting for justice.
For the Delhi leg, Kapoor picked a pink saree with floral detailing, her hair pinned into a bun and dressed with fresh flowers, the makeup kept to blush tones with smoky eyes and a nude lip. It's the kind of look built for a press dais rather than a red carpet, soft enough to photograph well under conference lighting.

That "slow burn" framing is worth noting. Daayra isn't being sold as an action-first cop thriller. The trailer material already out has leaned procedural, and the Delhi interaction, with students in the room rather than just trade press, suggests the film is chasing a slightly older, more discerning audience than the usual Friday action crowd. Whether that translates to opening-day numbers is the real test starting September 18.
Sukumaran comes into this with Malayalam cinema's credibility behind him and a growing Hindi footprint. For Kapoor, it's a rare cop role, and the pairing with a director known for research-heavy, fact-inspired filmmaking gives Daayra a different pitch than most September releases jostling for screens.
