Kareena Kapoor Khan has a confession: she's the one hiding phones in her house.

In a new interview with SCREEN, the actor said managing her sons' screen time is a daily battle, and one she's losing patience with. Taimur and Jeh don't own phones. But Taimur, she said, has found a workaround. "Taimur's nanny has a phone which he insists is his phone," Kareena told the outlet. "I said, 'It's not your phone.' He asked if he can tell his friends that it's his phone, but I denied."

The kicker, according to Kareena, is that Taimur has started using her own rules against her. "I am hyper about the whole digital thing, but then he then points out that 'you and abba also talk on the phone,'" she said. When the games run too long, there's no negotiating. "I literally have to snatch phones from their hands."

This, Kareena said, is the one real fault line between her and Saif Ali Khan on parenting. She's long called herself the stricter of the two, with Saif taking the laid-back route on most things. Not on this one. "Saif feels that I am too hyper and I need to relax, but I tell him that I need to be hyper about this," she said. "So, this is the only thing that we probably argue about. I just want to keep them still as small as possible... Forever."

The anxiety, she said, extends past phones and games to AI. Kareena described herself as genuinely unsettled by parts of the technology and said she's still working out how much of it she wants anywhere near her sons. Her position isn't a blanket ban, though. She thinks there's a version of AI that's useful and worth allowing, alongside the parts she'd rather keep out of the house entirely. Getting that balance right, she suggested, is the harder problem.

On the work side, Kareena has a release to think about. She's back on screen in Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar, out in theatres on September 18. She and Prithviraj Sukumaran play police officers in a story pulled from real events, with Gulzar co-writing alongside Yash Keswani and Sima Agarwal. Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios are backing it.

Whether Taimur gets his own phone before then remains, going by his mother's account, a closed subject.
