Maharashtra’s monsoon season has officially ended with a deficit — and Marathwada is the worst hit. The state received 19% less rain than normal from June 1 to September 30, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). In Marathwada, the shortfall was even steeper: 40% below average. That’s not just dry, that’s desperate. Solapur, Beed, Hingoli, Parbhani, and Ahilyanagar all saw rainfall drop by over 40%, with Solapur at a staggering 58% below mark. Sindhudurg in Konkan wasn’t spared either, down 36%. The IMD has already flagged the monsoon withdrawal for Maharashtra between October 3 and 8. Withdrawal showers are now isolated, fading fast. El Niño’s grip on the Pacific is blamed. The department had warned back in May. This year would be lean. Now it’s confirmed. No last-minute miracle. No late-season surge. Just dust, cracked earth, and farmers staring at empty fields. The next move? Waiting for winter rains. Or praying.
