Michael Kelly is switching sides of Taylor Sheridan's television map. The actor, who has spent two seasons on Lioness playing CIA operations man Byron Westfield, is joining Landman for season three, and he's coming in as a series regular, not a guest.

He won't be reprising Westfield. Instead Kelly plays William Crockett, described in the show's own character notes as the head of the world's biggest oil management firm, a man who "exudes efficiency and money." Both JoBlo and TheWrap reported the casting on Wednesday.

The part matters because of who isn't around to play it anymore. Crockett effectively fills the space left by Jon Hamm's Monty Miller, the ruthless tycoon who died at the end of season one, a death that pushed his widow Cami Miller, played by Demi Moore, into real power inside the company. With Hamm's arc closed, Sheridan and co-creator Christian Wallace needed a new titan to throw into the mix around Billy Bob Thornton's Tommy Norris.

Wallace has framed the new season as something bigger than a cast swap. He told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that season three amounts to a full "reset" for the series, adding that whatever Sheridan decides tends to be trusted without much pushback. "There's a great level of trust there that whatever Taylor decides will be the right move," Wallace said. "There are a lot of possibilities."

Those possibilities are being built on a show that's already Paramount+'s biggest bet. Season two's premiere pulled more than 9.2 million views in its first 48 hours, a 262 percent jump over the season one debut and, per the streamer, the most-watched original premiere in its history. Numbers like that explain why Sheridan is comfortable shaking up the cast rather than coasting on it.

Kelly brings a resume that fits the Sheridan machine. Four Emmy nominations for House of Cards, stints on Jack Ryan and The Penguin, and now two Sheridan shows running at once. He's repped by WME, Liebman Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello.

The returning ensemble stays heavy. Thornton anchors it, with Moore, Andy Garcia and Sam Elliott back alongside Ali Larter. New and recurring names include Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan and Colm Feore.

What the reset actually does to the plot is still under wraps. Season two left Tommy Norris squeezed between M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller's growing influence and his own family's mess in West Texas, a situation neither JoBlo nor TheWrap have connected directly to Crockett's arrival yet. No premiere date for season three has surfaced either. For a show that just posted the biggest launch numbers Paramount+ has ever logged, that's the one thing nobody's rushing to confirm.
