The Telugu actioner beat modest pre-release estimates on day one, riding the Aaya Sher song's popularity, even as trade reports flag shaky word of mouth going into the weekend.
Nobody expected much from The Paradise in the Hindi belt. Trade trackers had pencilled in somewhere between Rs 1-1.5 crore net for day one. Instead, per Koimoi, the film crossed Rs 2 crore and closed Friday at Rs 2.25 crore net, on 2,632 screens, with an average occupancy of 24 percent through the day.
That number matters beyond the bragging rights of one good Friday. It's Nani's biggest Hindi opening ever, and not by a small margin. The previous high was Dasara, which managed Rs 53 lakh net. The Paradise has beaten that by roughly 325 percent, according to Koimoi's numbers, which is the kind of gap that doesn't need much interpretation.
Nani has never really been a Hindi-market headliner. He's a familiar face there through Eega, Jersey and Hi Nanna, films that travelled well without turning him into a marquee draw north of the Vindhyas. The Paradise went into its Hindi release with barely any promotional push. What it did have was Aaya Sher, the film's song, which appears to have done a fair bit of the heavy lifting in pulling first-day footfalls, alongside whatever residual goodwill Nani carries from his earlier crossover hits.
The morning after is the real test
Here's the catch. Koimoi's report notes that word of mouth on the film has turned negative, and that the extended weekend is expected to stay muted as a result. A strong opening built on curiosity and a hit song can evaporate fast if audiences walk out unconvinced, and that's the pattern trade watchers are now watching for through Saturday and Sunday.
The online conversation matches that uncertainty. Chatter around The Paradise since release has swung between genuine debate over its craft and outright dismissal, with social media threads split on whether the film delivers or falls flat, alongside separate discussion about which of its supporting performances actually land. None of that is box office data, but it tracks with what the numbers are already hinting at.
The film itself is not a small bet. Directed by Srikanth Odela and produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri and Ishan Saksena under Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Cinemas and IVY Entertainment, The Paradise is reportedly Nani's most expensive film to date, carrying a budget said to be around Rs 200 crore. The cast includes Mohan Babu, Kayadu Lohar, Sonali Kulkarni and Raghav Juyal.
A Rs 200 crore film needs a lot more than a strong Friday to justify itself, and a single song carrying a weak-buzz release only goes so far. The next two days, and whether that negative word of mouth actually bites into footfalls, will tell us whether Friday's number was a spike or the start of something sustained.
