Nora Fatehi has to show up at Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on November 2. Not as an accused, but as a prosecution witness, listed LW-3 in the third supplementary chargesheet filed in the Rs 200 crore extortion case against conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, according to ABP Live and The Free Press Journal.

That distinction matters. Being named a witness is not the same as being named a suspect, and nothing in the current summons suggests the Economic Offences Wing considers Fatehi a party to the alleged fraud. Her statement was already recorded earlier under Section 164 of the CrPC, after EOW officials questioned her about her links to Chandrashekhar and his wife, Leena Maria Paulose. By her own account to investigators, she dealt with Chandrashekhar only through Paulose, and was also asked about an event she attended in Chennai back in December 2020.

The case itself goes back to 2021. Chandrashekhar, operating out of Rohini Jail, allegedly posed as senior government officials, including people from the Ministry of Law, and used call-spoofing technology to make his calls look like they were coming from official lines. His target was Aditi Singh, wife of former Ranbaxy promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh, who was in custody at the time. The pitch, according to the prosecution, was simple: pay up and your husband walks. Singh says she was extorted of close to Rs 200 crore over more than a year before she went to the Delhi Police in August 2021 after one more demand, this time for a crore. A trap followed, and Chandrashekhar was arrested along with his associates. The Delhi Police's EOW has since charged the accused under MCOCA.

Where Fatehi fits, and where she doesn't

Fatehi's name has circled this case for a while, tied to reports of luxury gifts allegedly moving through Chandrashekhar's associates and her interactions with people connected to him. Her team has maintained, as FPJ notes, that she cooperated with investigators and considers herself a victim in the matter rather than a participant in anything illegal.

This is also the case where Jacqueline Fernandez was formally named an accused rather than a victim, with a court ruling that she was, in its words, in connivance with Chandrashekhar in the alleged scam. Fatehi's position in the chargesheet is not the same. She's a witness the prosecution wants to call, which is a different legal standing altogether.

There are also claims attributed to Chandrashekhar himself about his equation with Fatehi, reportedly involving frequent calls and allegations around money and gifts. None of this has been independently verified, and it forms no part of the actual chargesheet reporting from the court proceedings.

For now, the only confirmed fact is the date. November 2, Rouse Avenue Court. What Fatehi says on the stand, and whether it changes anything for the other names still fighting this case, is the part nobody can answer yet.
