Vikram Phadnis’ Pal Bhar Ke Liye is a Hindi remake of his own Marathi film Smile Please, according to Tahir Raj Bhasin. The actor, who plays the lead in the new version, confirmed it’s a reimagining of the 2019 film he’d previously directed in Marathi — a project inspired by his late mother’s final years. The film, which premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in August, is now set for release in India, with no official date yet announced. Bhasin described his role as emotionally raw and unlike anything he’s done before, a quiet, tender presence that “brings a ray of sunshine” to the story. He praised Phadnis’ directorial clarity, noting the designer-turned-filmmaker knew exactly what he wanted from every scene, even during his Hindi debut. The film also stars Saiyami Kher and Viineet Kumar Siingh. Phadnis has said the movie is about his mother but made for his father. No word yet on whether the Hindi version will be released theatrically or stream on Netflix. But after its reception in Melbourne, anticipation is building. And if the emotional core holds, this one might not just be a remake. It could be a reckoning.
