The Kannada romantic comedy drama added Rs 21 crore in its third weekend alone, a jump that trade watchers say puts the Rs 100 crore mark within reach.
Premada Oorali isn't slowing down. If anything, it's speeding up.
The Kannada film collected Rs 8.75 crore on its third Sunday, a 20 per cent jump over Saturday, according to figures reported by Pinkvilla. That capped a third weekend worth Rs 21 crore gross, which is 90 per cent higher than what the film made in its second weekend. Running cume now stands at Rs 54 crore gross in the Indian market, 17 days after release.
What makes those numbers unusual is the shape of the curve. Most films open big and taper off. Premada Oorali has been doing the opposite, recording its biggest single-day collection of the weekend on each successive day through the third frame. A film getting louder in week three, not quieter, is not the normal pattern, and it's why trade trackers are now talking about a run at Rs 100 crore.
The cast list reads Rangayana Raghu, Shree Raam, Tapaswini Poonaccha and Ramika Shivu. Unlike the two other slow-burn hits it's being compared to right now, Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahayaate and Hanuman Ansh, Premada Oorali isn't a devotional film. It's a straight-up romantic comedy drama, which makes the comparison a little more interesting. Devotional cinema has its own built-in audience that tends to show up late once word of mouth travels through temple towns and family WhatsApp groups. A rom-com building the same way, off pure audience response rather than festival-season sentiment, is a different kind of story.
Pinkvilla's report carries the standard disclaimer that these are trade estimates rather than certified figures, compiled from advance trends and market sentiment, not studio-audited numbers. Worth keeping in mind before anyone starts printing the Rs 100 crore club badge.
Still, the trajectory is hard to argue with. A film that was reportedly quiet in its opening days has gone from a modest start to a Rs 21 crore weekend in the space of a fortnight. If the daily-growth pattern holds through the week, the ten-crore-a-day Sundays won't be the last surprise this one throws up.
The real test comes with how it handles the inevitable drop once the extended festive-season crowd thins out and competing Kannada and pan-India releases start eating into screen counts. For now, Premada Oorali is the one Kannada film nobody predicted would still be climbing past the two-week mark, and the Rs 100 crore conversation isn't going away until the daily numbers actually say otherwise.
