Arasan will not make it to theatres this Diwali. Priyanka Mohan confirmed as much at a recent event, even as she spoke about her first outing opposite Simbu in the Vetrimaaran-directed film, calling the whole experience magical.

The film was once pencilled in for a Diwali window. That plan has quietly fallen away. Work on it has run longer than expected, and the unit is currently on its final shooting schedule, according to Filmibeat Tamil. No fresh release date has been announced yet.

For Priyanka, the delay hasn't dented her mood. "I love the Vetrimaaran school. Acting in Arasan is a huge deal for me. I'm working with Simbu for the first time. You'll see a very different Simbu in this film," she said. She added that she picked up Vadachennai slang for the part, something she has never attempted on screen before. "Arasan was a magical experience," she said.

The cast includes Vijay Sethupathi and Yogalakshmi alongside Simbu and Priyanka. Anirudh Ravichander is scoring a Vetrimaaran film for the first time, a pairing that has kept trade circles chattering for months on its own. Kalaipuli S. Thanu is producing.

Arasan lands at an interesting point in Priyanka's own run. She debuted opposite Sivakarthikeyan in Nelson Dilipkumar's Doctor, a film that turned into a mega blockbuster and crossed the 100 crore mark. She followed it with another Sivakarthikeyan film, Don, also a 100 crore hit. Two films into her career and she was already sitting in Kollywood's 100 crore club, a rare thing for a debutante actress.

The bigger bookings kept coming after that. She played opposite Suriya in Etharkkum Thunindhavan, Dhanush in Captain Miller and Ravi Mohan in Brother. In Telugu, she has worked with Nani and Pawan Kalyan. Not every film in that stretch has clicked, but the range on her resume is hard to miss. Her most recent release, Made in Korea, landed as a modest feel-good watch rather than a big theatrical event.

Arasan is being built as something heavier. A Vetrimaaran film with Simbu in the lead, backed by Anirudh's score and Thanu's production house, was always going to carry weight, and a Diwali slot would have made that weight count at the box office. Instead, the makers appear to be letting the final schedule run its course rather than rush a cut out.

Whether that translates to a Pongal push or a later date in 2026 isn't clear yet. What is clear is that Priyanka Mohan isn't worried about the wait. She's called this her biggest opportunity yet, and going by her own account of the shoot, she means it.
