The Superstar says Tamannaah is the 'missing element' in the sequel, prompting fresh buzz around her possible return in a song sequence.
Rajinikanth isn’t just playing the role of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in Jailer 2 — he’s also shaping the film’s rhythm. At a recent promotional event, the superstar dropped a bombshell: the only thing missing from the sequel, in his view, is Tamannaah Bhatia.
He told director Nelson Dilipkumar to include a song for her, referencing the massive success of her 'Kaavaalaa' number in the original 2023 film. That track wasn’t just a chartbuster, it became a cultural moment, with its hook step dominating reels and dance challenges across India.
Nelson’s response? "I can't keep it just because you like it, sir." Rajinikanth didn’t flinch. He clarified that his suggestion wasn’t personal. "If I had done whatever I liked, I would have become irrelevant and gone to Bengaluru," he said, underscoring his belief that staying relevant means serving what audiences love. Not ego.
That line landed hard. It wasn’t just about Tamannaah. It was a public reminder of how Rajinikanth still operates, on the pulse of mass appeal. His comment turned a casting whisper into a full-blown talking point, even though no official confirmation exists yet.
Jailer 2 is set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15, 2026. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, the film sees Rajinikanth reprise his role as the retired jailer now entangled in a cross-border criminal conspiracy. Returning cast includes Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, and Suraj Venjaramoodu. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff are expected in cameos again. Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi are also rumored to appear.
Anirudh Ravichander returns to compose the music. The film has already been cleared with a U/A 16+ certificate and has a runtime confirmed.
The original Jailer grossed Rs. 348.55 crore net in India and Rs. 604.50 crore worldwide, with a strong opening of Rs. 48.35 crore. With all eyes on the sequel, Rajinikanth’s latest statement adds another layer of anticipation. Especially if Tamannaah does make a musical return.
For now, it remains a wish, not a promise. But in blockbuster Tamil cinema, even a hint from Rajinikanth can shift momentum.
