Rajinikanth's sequel opens on 15 October. The full cast, the U/A certificate, the songs, the rights deals and the ₹66 to 69 crore opening forecast, in one place.
Jailer 2, Rajinikanth's return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, opens in theatres worldwide on Thursday, 15 October 2026. Nelson Dilipkumar directs again, Sun Pictures produces and Anirudh Ravichander composes the music. Here is everything confirmed so far, in one place: release date, cast, certificate, runtime, songs, rights deals and advance booking. We will keep this page updated through release week and the box-office run.
Jailer 2 release date
Jailer 2 releases on 15 October 2026 in India and overseas, as Nelson confirmed to the press and as the censor clearance confirmed again. Sree Gokulam Movies is distributing in Kerala and Karnataka.
The film opens a day before a crowded Friday. On 16 October, Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali arrives, along with Rajkummar Rao's Prahaar and Yami Gautam's Nayyi Navelli.
Jailer 2 cast
Shiva Rajkumar returns too, and says his part is bigger than the cameo that drew cheers in the first film. Cameos by Mohanlal and Hrithik Roshan have been widely reported. Fans think they spotted Roshan in the trailer, but the makers have not confirmed it.
Censor certificate and runtime
The Central Board of Film Certification passed Jailer 2 with a U/A certificate, reported as U/A 16+. This came after a dispute over one violent scene, which the board wanted trimmed for that rating. The runtime has been reported at about 2 hours 45 minutes, slightly shorter than the first film.
Trailer
The trailer was released on 5 October. Our trailer story has the video. Reaction was split: plenty of fans loved it, and a good number felt it echoed the first film's trailer too closely.
Jailer 2 songs
Anirudh Ravichander's album came out without a traditional audio launch. The songs so far:
The music has had a cooler reception than the first film's Hukum. One of our writers wasn't convinced.
Pre-release event
Instead of an audio launch, the makers held a pre-release show. The Super Show streams on Sun NXT from 9 October. It features Rajinikanth, SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Ramya Krishnan.
Rights deals
Trade estimates put the total pre-release theatrical business at about ₹325 crore.
Advance booking and opening-day forecast
Overseas advance sales crossed $1 million with eight days to go, led by North America and the Middle East. In India, trackers quoted by Koimoi expect an opening day of ₹66 to 69 crore net. That would beat Coolie's ₹65 crore and make it the biggest Kollywood opening in the country.
Box office
Collections will be added here from the first day.
