Fans who can't make it to the ground for Jailer 2's pre-release bash won't have to miss out entirely. The makers have confirmed the Super Show will stream on Sun NXT starting October 9, five days before the film itself opens in theatres on October 15.

The announcement came straight from the production's social media handle, which has been drip-feeding updates in the run-up to release. Expect the usual trappings of a big South Indian pre-release event, cast speeches, musical numbers, and probably a few surprise appearances, all packaged for anyone watching from a couch instead of a stadium seat.

Rajinikanth leads the event lineup, joined by SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Ramya Krishnan. That's a fairly stacked stage even by Tamil cinema's own inflated standards, and it signals how much weight Sun Pictures is putting behind this sequel.

Jailer 2 picks up with retired warden "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian, whose peaceful post-retirement life gets upended when a crime empire threatens everything he built after the first film. He goes undercover as a driver to infiltrate the operation, which inevitably means reviving the violence he'd left behind and calling in old favours from people who owe him.

Rajinikanth returns in the lead, with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Jackie Shroff and Mirnaa reprising their roles from the original. New to this outing are Suryah, Suraj, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty, stepping into fresh characters rather than continuing anyone's arc from part one.

Then there's the cameo roster, which reads like someone raided every major film industry in the country at once. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Vijay Sethupathi and Hrithik Roshan are all set to pop up, a cross-industry flex that only a Rajinikanth vehicle could really pull off without it feeling forced.

Nelson Dilipkumar directs, with Anirudh Ravichander handling music and background score, the same combination that powered the first Jailer to its box office numbers back in 2023. Expectations for the sequel are correspondingly steep.

Rajinikanth isn't slowing down after this one. He's lined up for Dharman, an action entertainer directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and co-produced by Kamal Haasan, with Ram Pothineni reportedly cast as the antagonist and Sreeleela possibly featuring in a dance number. Beyond that sits KHxRK, a project that will reunite Rajinikanth with Kamal Haasan on screen for the first time in roughly four decades, directed by Nelson.

For now, though, the clock is running on Jailer 2. The Sun NXT stream on October 9 gives audiences a taste before the theatrical run begins, and with that cameo list alone, trade watchers will be scanning opening weekend numbers closely once October 15 arrives.
