Rajkummar Rao skipped the usual trip to the idol market this Ganesh Chaturthi. He made his own eco-friendly Ganpati murti at home, according to Bollywood Hungama, joining a growing number of celebrities who've moved away from plaster-of-Paris idols lately.

At the other end of the celebration was a full studio production. Producer Bhushan Kumar, his mother Sudesh Dua and co-producer Shiv Chanana performed the Sthapana Pooja at the T-Series office, marking the label's own version of the festival that's become something of a yearly tradition for the company.

Ananya Panday kept things closer to home, celebrating with her family at their residence and posting glimpses on Instagram. No elaborate setup, no public appearance, just a festival with the people she lives with.

A long list of other names showed up online through the day. Suniel Shetty, Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya and Vivek Dahiya, Genelia Deshmukh, Mahima Makwana, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Jackie Shroff all put up their own posts marking the occasion, per Bollywood Hungama's roundup. Priyanka Chopra, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar were named among the stars extending Ganesh Chaturthi wishes to their followers, though without the kind of detail attached to Rao's or Panday's celebrations.

A separate Bollywood Hungama report on the same day covered Saif Ali Khan, who offered prayers with his sons and household staff, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, who shared a glimpse of her own eco-friendly idol. That the eco-friendly route is getting mentioned specifically, and repeatedly, says something about where the conversation around immersion and idol material has landed in the industry.

None of this is new territory for Bollywood. Every year around this time, social media fills up with the same mix, family poohas, office ceremonies, the odd eco-conscious flex, and every year outlets run through the list star by star. What's shifted slightly is the framing. A few years ago nobody was noting which idol was clay and which wasn't. Now it gets a line of its own, whether it's Rao's homemade murti or Kareena Kapoor Khan's version of the same idea.

The bigger date on the calendar is still ahead. Anant Chaturdashi, when idols across the country get immersed, falls later this month, and that's usually when the visarjan processions and their own round of celebrity sightings take over the news cycle. Until then, it's Instagram grids full of modaks, aartis and family living rooms.
