Disco’s Diwali debut was a quiet one. The Malayalam crime thriller, starring Antony Varghese and Arjun Ashokan, opened to just ₹60 lakh net in India — 84% below the opening of Varghese’s last film, Kattalan, which had earned ₹3.8 crore on its launch. The film played across over 1,000 screens, mostly in Kerala, but landed third at the state box office behind Suriya’s Scene (₹6 crore) and Ramayana: Part 1 (₹2.15 crore).

It had limited pre-release buzz, and its performance was deeply impacted by the strong showing of Scene, which also found a strong foothold in Kerala, the film’s home market. Directed by Ullas Chemban and penned by Chemban Vinod Jose, Disco is an action crime thriller that follows a group of carefree friends entangled in a chaotic, style-heavy gangster drama.

The film was produced under Chembosky Motion Pictures, with key cast members including Dev Mohan, Lukman Avaran, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Femina George, Meera Vasudevan, and Gayathri Suresh. Despite the wide release, it received mixed-to-negative reviews from the limited audience it managed to attract. For Arjun Ashokan, this marks his lowest opening of the year, a sharp drop from Chatha Pacha: The Ring Of Rowdies, which grossed ₹3.4 crore on Day 1, and Varavu, which earned ₹1.55 crore.

Meanwhile, Ramayana: Part 1 is surging. On its third day, the film collected around ₹83 crore in India, its highest single-day total so far, after starting with ₹76 crore on Friday and dropping to ₹56 crore on Saturday. Overseas, it’s on track for $7 million on Day 3, up from $5.45 million on opening day.

That brings the film’s three-day worldwide total to approximately ₹380 crore, with Day 3 already surpassing its opening day. The momentum isn’t slowing. Word of mouth is strong. Sunday may have been quieter due to Diwali celebrations, but Monday and Tuesday are expected to be stronger, especially in India where post-festival days often see a spike.

The real growth lies ahead. Ramayana has passed its opening. Now it’s about staying power. For Disco?

The numbers don’t lie. In a weekend packed with high-profile releases, even good films can vanish.

Hexed lands in North American cinemas on November 25, and already, the whispers are louder than the hype. Disney’s original animated fantasy is poised to open with a $35 million to $45 million three-day haul — a number that could climb to $70 million over the five-day Thanksgiving stretch. That’s not bad for an original film in a year where sequels dominate the box office. But can it crack the top
