Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana has stormed the box office with a performance that’s already rewriting benchmarks. In just four days since its November 5 release, the film has earned over ₹253 crore from Indian theatres alone, according to data from Sacnilk, with Sunday’s gross standing at ₹35.60 crore. Globally, it has crossed ₹384 crore — a figure that places it firmly in contention to surpass Animal, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s 2023 hit, which earned more than ₹900 crore worldwide.
That record, once Ranbir’s career high, now looks vulnerable. The film is also on track to become the highest-grossing Ramayana adaptation in Indian cinema history, currently held by Om Raut’s Adipurush, which grossed ₹393 crore globally in 2023. Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios and Yash of Monster Mind Creations, with DNEG, Malhotra’s visual effects house, handling the film’s technical spectacle.
The collaboration between AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer marks their first joint work on a film, and early audience reactions have praised the score as a standout element. The film is structured as a two-part epic, with Part 2 set for release on Diwali 2028. Originally scheduled for 2027, the delay suggests a deliberate pacing strategy, possibly to accommodate post-production demands or franchise expansion plans, makers are reportedly eyeing a third part.
