Singapore's film classification board has slotted the film under NC16, meaning anyone under sixteen can't watch it there. Filmibeat Tamil, which first reported the rating, says the certificate came down to strong language and violent scenes deemed excessive in parts.
The film pairs Nivin Pauly, Soori and Anjali under Ram, one of Tamil cinema's more idiosyncratic directors, whose last outing Peranbu (referred to in reports as Paranthu Po) drew attention for how it handled parenting and childhood. Yuvan Shankar Raja composes the score. Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films is bringing the movie to Kerala, and on social media, the buzz has spilled into the slightly absurd, with at least one fan account on X changing its handle to announce the release date like it's breaking news.
As for what's actually in the film, Filmibeat Tamil's report describes a man on a train journey who crosses paths with an indestructible figure protecting a rat. That indestructible man, over the course of the trip, ends up narrating a tragic love story of his own. The traveller and an unsupported young boy get pulled into his orbit, and the whole thing builds toward what the report calls a tense confrontation. What follows that clash is being kept under wraps until release.
The violence angle is where things get specific, though the details so far are sourced from social media chatter rather than an official screening. One animated sequence reportedly shows a hunter spearing two animals, with blood shown on screen. A separate scene, per the same social media accounts cited by Filmibeat Tamil, involves a physical fight that tips into what's described as excessive violence. None of this has been independently verified through a formal review, and the outlet itself notes that whether the violence is really as heavy as described will only be clear once audiences see the film.
An NC16 rating in Singapore doesn't automatically mean an adults-only certificate back home. The Central Board of Film Certification runs its own process, and Ram's films have historically walked the line between mature themes and mainstream release without landing in the A-certificate bracket. Still, the Singapore flag adds a layer of curiosity to a film that already had decent expectation riding on Ram's name and Yuvan's music.
With the worldwide release locked for October 1 and Kerala distribution sorted through Wayfarer Films, the next checkpoint is simple: what does the CBFC do with it in India, and does the finished cut match the darker picture being painted online. Both answers land the same day the film does.
