Mid-Day is reporting that Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan could be paired opposite each other in King, Siddharth Anand's gangster drama starring Shah Rukh Khan. Nobody involved has confirmed it. But if it holds up, it puts two actors who haven't shared a frame in nineteen years back in business together.

Rani and Abhishek go back a long way on screen. Bunty Aur Babli, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. That run ended around 2007. A reunion, even a reported one, is the kind of thing that gets old-school Bollywood fans reaching for nostalgia threads on X.

There's a second layer to this. King also marks Rani's reunion with Shah Rukh Khan after twenty years, their last film together being Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in 2006. Earlier reports had suggested Rani would play the mother of Suhana Khan's character, in what was described as an extended cameo. Whether that mother role and the reported pairing with Abhishek sit in the same storyline, or represent two different accounts of her part, isn't clear from what's out there. Take both as unconfirmed until Red Chillies says otherwise.

The cast around them is stacked. Deepika Padukone in a substantial role, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and Suhana Khan making her big-screen debut. Siddharth Anand directs, Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures produce. 123telugu cites trade talk pegging King's India theatrical rights at a reported Rs 250 crore, which, if accurate, tells you how much confidence the trade has riding on this one before a single trailer has dropped.

The film has already had its share of noise online. A video claiming to show a King scene went viral last week. Turned out to be AI-generated, and fans called it out fast. Genuine leaked clips of Shah Rukh and Deepika shooting in Cape Town did make the rounds earlier, so the appetite for anything King-related, real or fake, is clearly there.

December 24, 2026, is still the date on the calendar. That puts King a week behind Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18. There's been chatter about a possible postponement to avoid that pile-up, but as of now, nothing official from either camp. Trade watchers will be parsing every scheduling move between here and Christmas.

For now, King remains a film assembled almost entirely out of reports. A pairing that isn't confirmed, a cameo that might or might not be a cameo, a release date that might or might not survive contact with a Marvel tentpole. Somewhere in Mumbai, Red Chillies is presumably watching all of this speculation build with quiet satisfaction. The actual confirmation, whenever it comes, will have a lot to live up to.
