Pralay, Ranveer Singh’s upcoming zombie epic, is officially shifting from mythic dread to modern horror. The film, directed by Jai Mehta and set in Mumbai, will see the actor take on a new kind of apocalypse — one where the dead walk, not as spirits, but as flesh-eating hordes. Scheduled for a 2027 release, it marks Bollywood’s most ambitious attempt yet at a full-blown zombie narrative.
Kalyani Priyadarshan makes her debut in the lead role, while production is split between Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios, Hansal Mehta and Sahil Saigal’s True Story Films, and Ranveer’s own Maa Kasam Films. No word yet on whether the undead will be drawn to Mumbai’s traffic jams or its monsoon floods, though both seem plausible.
The Free Press Journal notes that this isn’t just a genre shift, but a cultural pivot: after years of chudails and ghostly revenants, India’s horror scene is finally embracing the walking dead. The move follows global trends, zombie films have been a staple since George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead (1968), with recent hits like Dawn of the Dead (2004) and The Walking Dead TV series proving their staying power.
