Netflix picked September 18 to drop two of its biggest South and Hindi titles on the same day. Ravi Teja's Irumudi, which pulled in close to Rs 240 crore in theatres, starts streaming that Thursday alongside Lust Stories 3, the anthology series that's been building buzz since its cast list leaked.

Irumudi, directed by Siva Nirvana, is built around a father-daughter relationship set against the Ayyappa deeksha, mixing action with the emotional beats that made it a theatrical draw. Whether that box office number translates into streaming numbers is the real test now that it's off the big screen.

Lust Stories 3 carries four separate stories this time, working through modern relationships, love and the friction that comes with them. The cast is stacked: Radhika Apte, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Vijay Varma, Siddharth and Ali Fazal all feature across the segments.

Before that, Amazon Prime Video gets Waiting Hai on September 16, a comedy-crime thriller built around a railway ticketing scam in India. Divyenndu Sharma, Bhuvan Arora and Harshita Gaur lead it.

JioHotstar has its own moment on September 18 with Thudakkam, the debut vehicle for Mohanlal's daughter Vismaya Mohanlal. It's a survival action thriller about a young woman fighting to protect her family after an unexpected disaster hits, and it's set for release across Telugu and other South Indian languages, not just Malayalam. A day earlier, on September 17, the platform brings in The Mummy, Lee Cronin's horror film about a girl who goes missing in Egypt and returns to her family eight years later, with the aftermath of her return driving the scares.

Netflix isn't stopping at two big titles. The Doll arrives September 16, and September 17 is stacked with Stranger Things: Tales From '85 season two, Not a Stranger, Plastic Beauty and Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. The same Thursday that brings Irumudi and Lust Stories 3 also delivers Best of the Best, Modaraatri, The Scandal and Zakir Khan: Papa Yaar. Stop! That! Train! Rounds off the week on September 20.

On the theatrical side, 418 opens September 18 in Kannada and Telugu. Prashanth Neel is presenting the Maitri Movie Makers production, directed by Keerthan Nadagouda, with Chitra J Achar, Ramesh Indira and Preethi Pagadala in the cast.

Elsewhere, JioHotstar already put up the 78th Emmy Awards on September 15. Sun NXT adds Angeekaram on September 18, and Apple TV+ starts season six of Slow Horses on September 16.

With Irumudi and Lust Stories 3 landing the same day, the real question for next week is which one the trade tracks harder for viewership numbers, since neither platform tends to share those figures quickly.
