Bigg Boss 20 hadn't even properly begun and it already had its first casualty. Rhiya Ahir was voted out on the grand premiere stage on September 6, before she got anywhere near the house door.

The show built this into its opening twist, called "Fans Ka Faisla," which put two contestants, Rhiya and Love Gill, up against each other for a single spot inside. Salman Khan read out the result of a live poll run through the JioHotstar app. Love came out on top, reportedly by around five lakh votes, according to Bollywood Hungama. That's the number floating around. Bigg Boss hasn't put out an official tally, so treat it as reported rather than confirmed.

What made the segment land wasn't just the vote count. It was the argument that preceded it.

Rhiya has been known online for an incident involving a police van, one of those clips that gets called heroic by some corners of the internet and reckless by others. Love used the premiere stage to go after that narrative directly. He argued that blocking a police vehicle isn't the stand-up moment it's been made out to be online, it's a violation of the law, full stop. Rhiya didn't back down. She defended what she'd done and held her ground, and the two went back and forth in front of the cameras before the votes were even announced.

So the elimination played out less like a random poll and more like a referendum on that specific fight. Whether the audience was voting on Love versus Rhiya as contestants, or on that argument specifically, is anyone's guess. Either way, Rhiya's season ended before her season began.

This year's house is a mixed bag by design. Olympic boxer Mary Kom is in there alongside Bhojpuri star Amrapali Dubey. There's a heavy TV contingent too, Mahhi Vij, Kanika Mann, Aasif Khan, Aman Gandhi and Faissal Khan among them. Music and reality veterans Qazi Touqeer, Rhiti Tiwari and Kushal Tanwar (Gullu to most people) round out that side of the cast. And then there's the internet-native crowd, gamer ScoutOP, real name Tanmay Singh, rapper Yung DSA and creator Arishfa Khan, all part of the same house Rhiya never got to walk into.

Love Gill enters that mix carrying the baggage of a public argument that decided his fate on night one. That's rarely a clean start on this show. Contestants who win a fight to get in tend to either ride the momentum or get typecast fast as the person who picked a fight before unpacking their bags.

Colors TV and JioHotstar have the season running through the usual nightly cycle from here. The next question is straightforward enough. Does Love's premiere-night win follow him around the house as a talking point, or does Bigg Boss move on and let him just be another face in a very crowded room.
