The actor is back playing the prosecuting lawyer from Drishyam 2, and she says Ajay Devgn patted her on the back after her one-take courtroom scene.
Samvedna Suwalka is walking back into court. The actor is reprising her role as Advocate Gayatri Mohan in Drishyam: The Conclusion, the character she first played opposite Ajay Devgn in Drishyam 2, and she's just opened up about how that earlier shoot actually went down.
Suwalka landed the part back in 2022, and by her own account, she was terrified. Not of the character, but of the company. "Back in 2022, when I landed the role, I was very nervous because I thought I would have to perform my courtroom monologue in front of the whole cast, which includes greats like Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Rajat Kapoor!" she said. Turns out she didn't have to deliver that monologue in front of the film's principal cast after all. Small mercy. She still had a courtroom full of extras watching, which she compares to performing live.
The detail that'll stick, though, is what happened after the cameras stopped rolling. "That day when Ajay sir was leaving the courtroom, he patted my back! Best day," Suwalka recalled.
Credit also goes, in her telling, to director Abhishek Pathak. Instead of dictating exactly how Gayatri Mohan should be played, Pathak apparently told her to shoot it her own way first and see what stuck. "He said, 'Let's do a take your way and then see if that works,' and luckily he approved it in one take!" she said. One take, approved, scene done. Not a bad outcome for someone who'd been dreading the day.
Now she's back for round three. Drishyam: The Conclusion brings together the returning core of Devgn, Tabu and Rajat Kapoor, with Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat also in the mix. Suwalka's return comes right after her last release, Get, Set, Go, and puts her back in a franchise that's clearly not done building out its ensemble.
The film is set for release on October 2, 2026. Bollywood Hungama has separately reported that the film's retitling from Drishyam 3 to Drishyam: The Conclusion came with its own backstory, including word that Mohanlal called Devgn after catching the trailer and liked what he saw. Whether that enthusiasm translates to audiences remains to be seen, but with the cast largely intact and the courtroom stakes presumably higher this time around, Gayatri Mohan is walking into a bigger arena than she did in 2022.
October 2 isn't far off. That's when we find out if the conclusion lives up to the build-up.
