Sarah Jane Nader is out of Dancing With the Stars, season 35, gone after just one performance on the show's unusual two-night premiere.

The Love Thy Nader star and her partner Hailey Bills scored 14 out of 30 for their jive to "Sk8er Boi" on Wednesday night, and it wasn't enough to keep her in the ballroom. She becomes the second celebrity eliminated this season, after Conner Leavitt went home the night before.

ABC split its season 35 premiere by gender this year, with the eight male contestants performing Tuesday and the eight women taking the floor Wednesday. It's the biggest cast the show has ever fielded, 16 celebrities in total, and that meant one elimination at the end of each night instead of the usual single cut.

Maura Higgins, dancing a foxtrot to "Black Velvet" with Mark Ballas, walked away with the night's top score, 21 out of 30, becoming the first woman this season to pull a seven from every judge. That ties her with Harry Shum Jr., who topped the men's leaderboard on night one with the same score. Bruno Tonioli called her performance "so seductive, so enticing, smooth as silk," and said he hadn't seen dancing like it in a week-one routine before.

Jenna Dewan followed close behind with a 19 for her tango with Val Chmerkovskiy, and Amber Glenn and Julia Stiles tied at 18. Tatyana Ali had the roughest night of the eight, scoring 12 for a jive that started shaky, though Carrie Ann Inaba told her she could see "a fierce fire burning" underneath the nerves.

The scoring came a night after online voting crashed during the season's opening episode, forcing the show to fall back on text-only voting for the first night. Co-host Julianne Hough told viewers at the top of Wednesday's show that the glitch had been fixed, and online voting ran as normal for the women's round.

The premiere's numbers have given ABC something to talk about beyond the ballroom drama. Preliminary Nielsen figures put the first night at 6.67 million viewers, a jump of roughly 24 percent over last season's opener and the most-watched DWTS premiere since season 29 back in 2020. Whatever the show is doing with this bigger cast and split-night format, it's working at the ratings level, at least for now.

Fourteen celebrities remain, and they'll be dancing to what the show is billing as viral hits when the competition moves to its regular schedule next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+. Whether Higgins can hold her early lead, or whether Ali can climb out of the bottom of the leaderboard, is the first real storyline of the season.
