That's a rough number for a film with this kind of scale, and Monday being a holiday hasn't helped much.

The trouble started early. Sardar 2 opened to a mixed response, the kind where the trailer crowd shows up but word of mouth doesn't carry it past the weekend. Then there's the Mandaadi problem. Soori's film released around the same window and appears to be pulling audiences that might otherwise have gone for Sardar 2, splitting whatever theatrical appetite exists in the Tamil circuit right now.

On social media, the comparisons have gotten a little unkind. Viewers have started drawing a line between how Sardar 2 is landing and the reception Karthi's earlier film Indian 2 got, which is not the company any sequel wants to keep. There's also a running debate among moviegoers over whether to catch it in theatres at all or just wait it out for streaming, which tells you something about where audience confidence sits five days out.

For context, the film follows Vijay Prakash, or Viji, an operative pulled into a mission against a group called Black Dagger. The target is Doku, a biochemical weapon split across three keys held by separate operatives. The job puts Viji back in touch with his father, Chandra Bose, aka Sardar, whose own past with Black Dagger and Doku gives the film its emotional spine and its title. Father and son team up, redemption arc included, to stop the weapon from falling into the wrong hands.

On paper it's a solid setup for a big-canvas actioner. In theatres, it just hasn't converted. Pinkvilla's figures are trade estimates and come with the usual caveat that they're tracking numbers, not certified collections, but the trend across four straight reports now points the same direction: soft opens, soft weekdays, no real turnaround.

The real test comes over the next few days. If Sardar 2 can't find its legs by the second weekend, the conversation shifts fast, from box office disappointment to how quickly it lands on a streaming platform. For a film built around a father-son mission and a ticking global threat, the bigger threat right now might just be the box office chart.
