The actor's Ganesh Chaturthi outing with Gauri and Suhana Khan ended with a second stop at T Series, where Bhushan Kumar hosted the family for another round of darshan.
Shah Rukh Khan turned up at Lalbaugcha Raja on Sunday evening wearing a watch that costs more than most debut directors get as a budget. The Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921, in pink gold, carries a price tag of roughly Rs 43.09 lakh, and it didn't take long for watch-spotting accounts on Instagram to zero in on it while everyone else was looking at the family.
Because the family was the actual point of the evening. Shah Rukh came with Gauri Khan and daughter Suhana, plus his manager Pooja Dadlani, to seek Bappa's blessings during Ganeshotsav. Navy blue kurta for him, yellow suit for Gauri, green for Suhana. Understated, as these things go for a man who once needed a helicopter for a film release.
The crowd wasn't understated at all. Lalbaugcha Raja pulls some of the thickest footfall of any pandal in Mumbai during the festival, and a Khan arriving only adds to the crush. Security formed a ring around the family as they moved toward the idol, and by most accounts Shah Rukh spent a fair bit of the walk trying to create space between Gauri, Suhana and the people pressing in. He still found time to smile and wave, because that's the job too.
A Watch Built For Drivers, Worn For Darshan
The Historiques American 1921 isn't a red-carpet flex in the usual sense. It's a reissue of a driver's watch from the 1920s, and its whole design logic is built around a diagonal dial so a driver could glance at the time without turning the wrist off the wheel. Shah Rukh's version comes in an 18-karat pink-gold cushion case, crown parked near the 1:30 position, with a textured silver dial, blue Arabic numerals and blued-gold hands. It runs on a manual-winding, in-house movement. None of which matters to anyone at a Ganesh pandal, obviously, but it's the kind of detail that turns a family outing into three separate news cycles.
Second Stop, T Series
The Khans weren't done for the night. Shah Rukh went on to T Series for another round of darshan, this time with chairman and managing director Bhushan Kumar as host. He stopped outside to wave at fans who'd gathered there too, which is fairly standard practice at this point for anyone doing the pandal circuit during Ganeshotsav.
What's notable is how routine all this has become. Big stars doing multiple darshans in one evening, fans camping outside two or three locations hoping for a glimpse, the watch or the outfit becoming its own separate story by morning. Shah Rukh's Ganesh Chaturthi has, for years now, been treated as a checkpoint on the festival calendar. This year it came with a Rs 43 lakh footnote. Whether King, the film everyone's still waiting on details for, gets its own festive-season moment remains to be seen.
