Abir Singh, son of Salman Khan's longtime bodyguard Gurmeet Singh Jolly, better known simply as Shera, is reportedly set to make his Bollywood debut in a film titled Tarzan. Filmfare broke the report, and it names Sooraj Pancholi as his co-star. Neither the production house nor Salman's own involvement has been confirmed yet.

This isn't the first time Abir's launch has made news. Back in 2022, reports suggested Salman had asked the late Satish Kaushik to direct Abir's debut project, with filming expected to begin in January 2023. That timeline never held. Kaushik passed away in March 2023, and the film, whatever it was called then, quietly disappeared from the conversation. No official statement ever confirmed or denied any of it.

Three years on, the story has resurfaced, this time with a title and a co-star attached. Whether Tarzan is the same project reworked or something built from scratch isn't clear from the reporting so far. What is clear is that Salman has a track record here, and a long one.

He's launched Sonakshi Sinha, Zareen Khan, Daisy Shah, Saiee Manjrekar, Warina Hussain and his brother-in-law Aayush Sharma over the years. Sooraj Pancholi himself owes his 2015 debut to Salman's production banner Hero, where he starred opposite Athiya Shetty. That film didn't do business, but both actors walked away with attention and, eventually, careers. If Tarzan happens the way it's being reported, Sooraj won't be the new face this time. Abir will be.

What this means for Salman's own release calendar is a separate question, and one still without answers. Maatrubhumi, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, was supposed to open in April this year. It got pushed, and a fresh date hasn't been announced. SVC63, the Vamshi Paidipally film with Nayanthara opposite Salman, is still shooting and is currently pointed at an Eid release next year. Neither project has anything to do with Abir's debut, but both are reminders of how often Salman's announced timelines shift before they firm up.

For now, Tarzan exists as a single trade report riding on a name that's been floated before and gone nowhere. The last attempt collapsed after its director died before a frame was shot. Whether this one gets an official confirmation, a producer's name attached, or even a start date will decide if Abir Singh's debut is finally real this time, or just the latest version of a story that keeps almost happening.
