Shraddha Kapoor didn’t just turn down films after Stree 2—she turned down a whole season of offers. Not the kind of pause you make when you’re tired. This was a deliberate, quiet strike against the machine.
Shraddha Kapoor didn’t just take a break after Stree 2 — she made a statement. In the wake of the 2024 horror comedy’s massive success, she was offered multiple film projects, including several with substantial financial incentives. But instead of rushing into another role to maintain momentum, she chose to wait.
Not for a script. Not for a director. For the right story. That decision, she says now, was worth every moment of silence.
Speaking during an Instagram Ask Me Anything session, she revealed that after the film’s box office triumph, she received “a lot of films” and “some very good money too.” But she had already made up her mind: “I wouldn’t sign anything until I found the right story.” Her heart, she said, told her to be patient, and so she was. The journey wasn’t easy.
She admitted it was difficult to wait for something you really, really want. But looking back, she feels pride. “Right now, I feel so proud that I decided to wait,” she shared. It wasn’t about ego or image.
It was about integrity. She wanted to step back into the spotlight only when the project resonated deeply, not because it paid well, or because it was safe, but because it mattered. That project is Eetha, a biographical musical drama directed by Laxman Utekar and written by Kshitij Patwardhan. Shraddha takes on the central role of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, a legendary Marathi Tamasha and Lavani performer whose life spanned from rural folk stages to the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The film traces her struggles against gender prejudice, caste barriers, and personal loss, while celebrating the dignity and cultural weight of Maharashtra’s folk theatre traditions. The cast also includes Randeep Hooda, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Siddharth Jadhav. Ajay-Atul are composing the soundtrack. Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, alongside Laxman Utekar and Karishma Sharma’s Kathputli Creations, Eetha is set to release theatrically across India on December 4, 2026.
The trailer premiered on October 30. This isn’t just a comeback, it’s a recalibration. Shraddha hasn’t been idle. She’s been listening.
And now, she’s stepping forward not as a star chasing roles, but as an artist choosing them. The industry may still demand constant output. But she’s shown what happens when you don’t comply.
