Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia's fantasy adventure The Vvaan - Force of the Forrest pulled in Rs 4.35 crore net in India on Wednesday, September 30, its sixth day in theatres. That's a 27.5 per cent fall from Tuesday's Rs 6 crore, according to Sacnilk figures cited by The Free Press Journal.

The India net total now stands at Rs 49.20 crore. Add the gross numbers and you get Rs 58.54 crore domestic, with another Rs 5 crore coming in from overseas. Worldwide gross is at Rs 63.54 crore and counting.

The opening weekend told a decent story. Rs 8 crore on Friday, then a climb to Rs 11.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 14.35 crore on Sunday, the kind of weekend bump that makes a trade analyst sit up. But Monday is where the trouble started. The film shed most of its momentum, crashing to Rs 5.25 crore. Tuesday clawed back a little ground at Rs 6 crore before Wednesday's fresh dip.

That's the pattern distributors watch closely in the first week, the weekday hold after a strong weekend debut. Right now it's shaky, not collapsed, but shaky.

The bigger number hanging over all this is the budget. The Vvaan has reportedly been mounted on close to Rs 80 crore, which means the film is still nowhere near recovery even with a near-Rs 50 crore domestic net after six days. Whether it gets there depends heavily on what happens over the coming weekdays and, the second weekend, when a film either finds a second wind or settles into a quiet fade.

Critical reception hasn't given it much of a push either. The Free Press Journal's own review landed at 2.5 stars, praising the story's ambition and the visual mounting while calling out Deepak Kumar Mishra's direction as the film's weak link. The verdict, in the reviewer's words: "The story of the movie is very interesting, and visually it is stunning, but Deepak Kumar Mishra's weak direction makes it a strictly one-time watch film. If you are a Sidharth Malhotra fan, then it is a worth your time for you."

Mixed reviews plus a wobbly weekday hold isn't the combination a Rs 80 crore film wants heading into its second Friday. The next seven days will decide whether The Vvaan can still mount a late recovery or whether the weekend highs were as good as it gets.
