Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia's The Vvaan has crossed Rs 70 crore net, overtaking Student of the Year as his fourth highest grosser, with Kapoor & Sons next in sight before new releases arrive.
Nineteen days into its run, The Vvaan has done something no one was particularly watching for in September. The Balaji Motion Pictures fantasy thriller has crossed Rs 70 crore net at the Indian box office, and that number has quietly bumped it past Student of the Year to become Sidharth Malhotra's fourth highest grossing film of his career, according to figures reported by Koimoi.
The film added 45 lakh on its third Tuesday, day 19, up from 35 lakh the day before. That small bounce came courtesy of the Blockbuster Tuesday discount scheme, the kind of nudge that keeps a film limping along in its third week rather than vanishing from screens altogether. The net total now stands at 70.41 crore, which works out to roughly 83.1 crore gross.
That 70.41 crore is enough to clear Student of the Year's lifetime tally of 70 crore, moving The Vvaan into fourth place on Sidharth's all-time list. Trade estimates cited by Koimoi suggest the film is tracking toward a final number somewhere between 73 and 75 crore net, which would put it in direct range of Kapoor & Sons and its 73.29 crore lifetime haul. Clear that, and The Vvaan takes the third spot in Sidharth's filmography outright.
The clock is running out
The timing isn't exactly in the film's favour. This is the week Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 lands in theatres, alongside a clutch of other new titles, and that kind of traffic tends to swallow screen share whole. Koimoi's report frames this as the decisive factor in how much more The Vvaan can squeeze out before it exits. Whatever it earns from here has to happen fast, likely in the next handful of days before exhibitors reallocate shows.
The film opened on September 25 and has settled into the pattern familiar to mid-budget Hindi releases this year, a front-loaded opening weekend followed by a long, slow trickle that depends heavily on discount Tuesdays and word of mouth rather than a second wave of walk-ins. Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Niraj Kothari and Arunabh Kumar across Balaji Motion Pictures, TVF Motion Pictures and 11:11 Productions, it also features Anup Soni, Sunil Grover, Shweta Tiwari and Maniesh Paul.
Whether The Vvaan actually gets to Kapoor & Sons' number now depends entirely on how many screens it holds once Jailer 2 opens wide. A couple of strong days could do it. A quiet week, and fourth place is where this one stays.
