The bigger structural news, buried under all the performance chatter, is that MTV has created a brand-new award this year. Alex Warren, Belmont Cameli, Brandon Sklenar, Charli xcx, Chuck D, Ciara Miller, David Corenswet, Ella Bright, Emma Bunton, Isabel May, Jeff Probst, Orville Peck, Paris Hilton, Rachel Dratch, Teyana Taylor, Troye Sivan and Tyla are all set to step out on stage across the two hours.
One pairing worth flagging for anyone who watches Off Campus: Belmont Cameli and Ella Bright presenting together, fresh off wrapping season two of the show. Their fans have been tracking every joint appearance since, and this counts.
Snoop Dogg hosting is itself a shift in tone for a show that's leaned on musicians-as-presenters more than stand-up hosts lately. Whether he sticks to scripted banter or goes off book between segments is the kind of thing that usually decides how a VMAs telecast is remembered the next morning.
What's not clear yet, per Just Jared's reporting, is whether Nirvana's Vanguard Award moment includes any kind of performance or purely an acceptance on the band's behalf. That detail should surface once the broadcast actually runs.
