Mandaadi is built around the country-boat races that run through the lives of a fishing village, and it leans on Soori alongside Sathyaraj, Suhas, Mahima Nambiar and Mithun.

What the numbers really confirm is a shift that's been building for a few years now. Soori came up through Tamil cinema as comic relief, doing bit parts in films like Sangamam, Kadhal and Deepavali before Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu gave him his first real identity on screen.
