Soori's Mandaadi has crossed Rs 50 crore in India in just six days, and the number is still climbing.

According to data cited by Sacnilk and reported by Filmibeat Tamil, the film added Rs 4.40 crore on its sixth day, taking its total domestic haul to Rs 50.25 crore. Theatres are apparently still filling up, and trade estimates now point to a Rs 100 crore finish if the pace holds.

Directed by Madhimaran Pugazhendhi, Mandaadi opened on the same day as Karthi's Sardar 2, which set up an obvious box office face-off. Filmibeat Tamil reported that once first-day, first-show reactions started coming in, it was fairly clear which of the two would come out ahead. Mandaadi, by most accounts, has been the one people are actually talking about.

Part of that comes down to subject matter nobody else has touched. The film is built around a traditional boat race, a setting Tamil cinema hasn't really gone near before, and the outlet credited the director for keeping the racing sequences both easy to follow and genuinely tense on screen. Soori's mass moments in the film have apparently landed hard with theatre crowds too, with whistles and applause greeting several of his entrances.

This fits a pattern that's been building for a while now. Maamannan drew a mixed critical response but still held its own at the box office. Kottukkaali went the other way, a commercial miss that ended up winning praise on the international festival circuit. Soori, in other words, keeps ending up in films that get noticed one way or another, whether the reviews agree with each other or not.

Mandaadi looks like the one where both sides line up. Strong reviews, and now a number that's about to hit nine figures.

Filmibeat Tamil's report also points to what's coming next for Soori, whose action sequences in Karudan had already suggested he was building toward bigger things. He's set to work with director Ravikumar next, in a film reportedly based on the Chennai floods. Whether that turns into the kind of run where Soori starts routinely outgrossing bigger stars, as the outlet speculated, is a bet for later.

For now, the only number that matters is the one ticking upward on Mandaadi's counter. If Sacnilk's daily figures hold steady through the coming week, the film should hit the Rs 100 crore club before the second Friday rolls around, and Soori will have his first solo entry into that club to show for it.
