Spider-Man: Brand New Day has pushed past the Rs 500 crore net mark in India, logging Rs 502.84 crore net (Rs 593.37 crore gross) in 54 days of release, according to Koimoi's box office tracker. It is the kind of number that puts the Tom Holland sequel comfortably in the club of the biggest Hollywood runs India has seen, and it arrives while two other big-ticket releases are still working through very different trajectories in the same theatres.

Destin Daniel Cretton's film, built on a $200-220 million budget and carrying a cast that stacks Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo around Holland, has had the runway to get there. Fifty-four days is a long life for any studio release, and the fact that it's still adding to that Rs 500 crore-plus tally says the film found repeat business well past its opening fortnight.

Compare that to Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which has been in Indian cinemas for 67 days, nearly two weeks longer than Spider-Man's run, and has managed only Rs 190.65 crore net (Rs 224.98 crore gross), per Koimoi. That's a striking gap given The Odyssey carries the heavier price tag of the two, a reported $375 million all in, including $125 million on marketing, and an ensemble that includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and, Holland himself in a supporting role. Nolan's name and an all-star sheet clearly got eyeballs on day one, when the film opened to $72.98 million worldwide, but the India trend since has been slower than the scale of the film would suggest.

Then there's Toxic. Yash's film has done in 27 days what Odyssey hasn't managed in more than double that time. Koimoi puts its India net at Rs 245.71 crore, or Rs 289.98 crore gross, with another Rs 43.3 crore gross coming in from overseas markets. That takes its worldwide gross to Rs 333.28 crore in under a month, a pace that outstrips both Spider-Man's per-day average since release and Odyssey's by a wide margin.

What this really shows is three different kinds of box office story running in parallel right now. Spider-Man is the marathon runner, banking on legs and repeat viewing to get to a number that looked ambitious even at its opening weekend. Odyssey is the case of a film with every commercial advantage on paper, Nolan, a global cast, a mega marketing spend, still finding India a tougher market to crack than its budget would demand. And Toxic is the sprinter, converting a strong domestic base and a genuine overseas pull for Yash into a number that's climbing fast without needing two months to do it.

The real test now is what each does from here. Spider-Man's Rs 500 crore-plus is already banked, but distributors will be watching whether it can hold screens against newer releases in the weeks ahead. Odyssey has time on its side if word of mouth catches up. And Toxic, still barely a month old, has room to run.
