Anil Kapoor and Suresh Triveni have secured National Winner honours at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2026 for their work on Subedaar, with Kapoor winning Best Actor in a Leading Role and Triveni named Best Director for a Feature Film. The announcement, made on October 3, marks a significant milestone for the film as it advances to the Grand Finals in Singapore on December 3. The awards operate on a two-tier system: country-level juries — composed of senior industry professionals, first select National Winners before an international panel chooses the Asian honours. This year, 335 National Winners were selected across 39 categories from 38 countries, covering film, television, and digital content. Subedaar, produced by Vikram Malhotra, Suresh Triveni, and Anil Kapoor, will now compete in the Best Feature Film category against Indonesia’s Sundance contender Levitating, Singapore’s Annecy-winning animation The Violinist, and India’s biographical sports drama Bison Kaalamaadan. The recognition adds to the film’s growing global footprint. It became Amazon Prime Video’s most-watched Indian original during its opening weekend and trended across 31 countries. Its success follows that of Maa Behen, another project from director Suresh Triveni and producer Abundantia Entertainment, which starred Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Dharna Durga, and Ravi Kishan. That film ranked second globally among non-English titles on Netflix and trended in 15 countries. Both films were the only Hindi originals to feature in Ormax Media’s top 10 most-watched OTT films for the first half of 2026. The production companies Opening Image and Abundantia Entertainment shared the news on social media, declaring, “The global takeover continues! After making waves across the world, #Subedaar brings home big wins from the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2026, adding another milestone to our incredible journey.” A post from Abundantia Entertainment’s official account confirmed the win. Kapoor, reflecting on the nomination, called it “a very special moment in my journey.” With the Grand Awards Gala set to take place at Singapore’s historic Capitol Theatre, the final round is now just weeks away. The outcome remains uncertain. But the momentum is undeniable.
