Before it was Mannat, it was a film set. Anil Kapoor says he shot portions of Tezaab at the very bungalow that Shah Rukh Khan would go on to buy and turn into one of Mumbai's most photographed homes.

The detail comes up in an upcoming weekend episode of India Ke Top 1%, the Star Plus quiz show Kapoor hosts, when a contestant tells him that a crore in prize money would go toward a sea-facing home of her own, something like Mannat. That's the cue for Kapoor to go back three decades.

"We used to meet on Carter Road, where he had a flat," Kapoor says of Khan, according to Bollywood Hungama. "He, too, dreamt of owning a grand, sea-facing bungalow, and he fulfilled that dream. I remember him buying Mannat right before my eyes. I had also shot for Tezaab at that property, before it became his home."

So the geography checks out in a strange, almost cinematic way: Kapoor working on a set in the late 1980s that, years later, a younger actor he'd just become friends with would walk into as its owner.

Kapoor also goes further back, to when he and Khan first met, while Kapoor was shooting Benaam Badshah. "Shah Rukh sahab and I have been very close friends for many years," he says. "He had come to meet me while I was shooting for Benaam Badshah. When I saw him and looked into his eyes, I felt that he would become a very big star. That is where our relationship began, and over time, our friendship grew."

None of this is new in the sense of being a secret. Mannat's backstory, the sea view, the scale of the place, has been part of Bollywood folklore for years. What Kapoor adds is a very specific, very personal footnote: he was there, on set, before the house meant anything to Khan at all. And he was around again when Khan actually closed the deal and made the dream literal.

It's the kind of story that works because of who's telling it, not because it reveals anything new about the house itself. Two actors who came up around the same time, one watching the other's ambition turn into an actual address on Bandra's coastline.

India Ke Top 1% airs Saturdays and Sundays at 8 PM on Star Plus and JioHotstar. The Kapoor episode, with this particular Khan anecdote, is yet to air as of this report.
