Suriya teases a Rolex spin-off with Lokesh Kanagaraj — and says he wants to play the villain
Suriya’s not done with Lokesh Kanagaraj’s universe. Not even close. At a pre-release event in Hyderabad for his new film Scene, the actor dropped a bombshell: he’s already talking to Lokesh Kanagaraj about a standalone spin-off starring Rolex — the character he played in Vikram. The tease came during a lighthearted moment, but it wasn’t just banter.
Suriya said the project is ‘currently being processed’ and asked fans to ‘ask Loki to call me’. He didn’t stop there. When asked whether he’d play hero or villain in the film, he grinned: ‘Villain is better.’ He’s done enough heroes. One villain?
That’s a reset. A full pivot. And if you’ve seen him as the cold-eyed Rolex in Vikram’s epilogue, you know what that could mean. The man who usually saves the day might finally be the one pulling the strings from the shadows.
It’s not just a casting twist, it’s a tonal shift. And it’s happening in Tamil cinema, where Suriya has been riding a wave of success with Karuppu and Vishwanath and Sons. Now, with Scene, his third release this year, set for Deepavali, he’s not just building momentum. He’s building a mythos.
Jithu Madhavan’s directorial debut in Tamil, Scene, stars Suriya as DSP Inbaraj, Nazriya as Maya, and Naslen as Eshwaran, a psychopath marking his Tamil debut. Dravid Selvam wrote the dialogues. Sushin Shyam composed the music. Chethan D’Souza choreographed the action.
The film is produced by Suriya and Jyotika under Zhagaram Studios and 2D Entertainment. It opens alongside Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2. But here’s the catch: Scene will have a limited release in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana due to screen availability. So while the hype is global, the rollout is tight.
And yet, the real story isn’t just the film. It’s what comes after. The Rolex spin-off isn’t confirmed. No script.
No greenlight. Just a whisper from Suriya, a nod from Lokesh, and a promise: ‘We’ll make it happen.’ If it does, it won’t just be another Tamil thriller. It’ll be a crossover. A franchise.
A villain-led turn. And it all starts with a phone call.
