Jithu Madhavan's Tamil debut, also starring Nazriya Nazim and Naslen, lands on Diwali against Mookuthi Amman 2 and Ramayana: Part 1.
Suriya's Scene is headed to Dubai before it hits Indian screens. The makers have confirmed a pre-release event at Silicon Central Mall on October 25, starting 6 PM, just five days ahead of the film's November 6 release.
Nobody's officially confirmed what happens on stage that evening, but the expectation among fans and trade watchers is that the trailer and audio will both drop there. The makers haven't locked that in publicly, so treat it as likely rather than certain for now.
Scene is Jithu Madhavan's first film after Romancham and Aavesham, and his first in Tamil after building a name in Malayalam cinema. Suriya plays a police officer here, though going by Madhavan's track record, that description probably undersells whatever he's actually doing with the role. The film also marks the Tamil debut of composer Sushin Shyam, who's worked with Madhavan on both his previous outings, and the two songs out so far, 'Aathi Iva Yarraa' and 'Aeroplane', have already found an audience.
Nazriya Nazim and Naslen share screen space with Suriya in what's being described as prominent roles, and for Naslen this is his first Tamil film too, a fairly big crossover moment coming off his Malayalam run. Anandaraj, Lal and Raj Priyan round out a cast that's been kept relatively tight on detail until now.
A crowded Diwali weekend
Scene isn't walking into an empty theatre slot. November 6 also brings Nayanthara's Mookuthi Amman 2 and the Ranbir Kapoor-Sai Pallavi starrer Ramayana: Part 1, which means three big names are chasing the same festive audience in the same week. That's the kind of traffic jam that usually decides which film the trade talks about through the following Monday.
Behind the camera, Scene has Vineeth Augustian on cinematography, Ajmal Sabu editing, and Ashwini Kale on production design, with Chethan D'Souza choreographing the action. Jaishree Damodaran co-produces alongside Suriya and Jyotika's Zhagaram Studios and 2D Entertainment, with Arun Appukuttan as co-director. It's Suriya's 47th film which is its own small milestone whatever the box office does with it.
For now, the Dubai date is the only confirmed marker on the calendar. Whether the trailer actually lands that evening, and what it reveals about the cop character everyone's been theorising about, is the thing to watch for on October 25.
