Scarlett Johansson has spoken publicly for the first time about her role in The Batman Part II, revealing that the character left her grappling with what she described as ‘existential angst’. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 41-year-old Oscar winner said the part was ‘very hard to figure out’ — a challenge she attributed not just to the script or the character’s complexity, but also to her own personal state at the time.
‘It gave me a lot of existential angst, for some reason,’ she said. ‘I don’t know why, whether it was just the role or it was just where I am in my life, but it was just hard to crack it.’ She declined to reveal who she’s playing, though speculation has been rampant since the casting was announced nearly a year ago.
Online forums have floated theories ranging from Gilda Dent to Poison Ivy, and even Andrea Beaumont/The Phantasm, but no official confirmation exists. The film, which reunites Johansson with Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright, is still scheduled to open in theaters on February 18, 2028.
