Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia's fantasy drama is winding down near Rs 65-70 crore nett, squeezed out by the arrival of Drishyam: The Conclusion.
The Vvaan: Force of the Forest is limping to the finish line. Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia's fantasy mythological drama pulled in roughly Rs 75 to 85 lakh on its second Monday, a 75 per cent slide from its second Friday numbers, according to Pinkvilla's trade estimates.
That takes the film's running total to Rs 58.80 crore nett at the Indian box office.
The culprit isn't hard to spot. Drishyam: The Conclusion opened big in week two and has been eating into screen share across the country, the kind of collision that rarely ends well for the film already in theatres. Pinkvilla notes that had The Vvaan managed a cleaner second week, free of that competition, it might have crossed into clean hit territory. Instead, it's settling for something more modest.
Based on current trends, the film is expected to close its run somewhere between Rs 65 and 70 crore nett, which Pinkvilla calls a decent outcome given the circumstances, even if it falls short of the ceiling the film seemed to be flirting with after its opening weekend.
Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, The Vvaan follows Rishi, an engineer who heads back to his ancestral village in Bihar with his wife to sort out a property dispute. What starts as a routine family matter turns into something bigger when a development project threatens a forest the village considers sacred, pulling Rishi into a mystery that's been sitting there for centuries. Myth and the modern world collide, and Rishi ends up having to choose between progress and the balance the forest apparently keeps.
The cast around Malhotra and Bhatia is stacked with familiar faces, Anup Soni, Sunil Grover, Shweta Tiwari and Maniesh Paul among them, all playing supporting parts in the village drama.
Two weeks in, the numbers tell a simple story. A film that had room to grow ran straight into a bigger release and the collection curve flattened fast. The final tally will depend on how much life is left in it over the coming weekdays, but with Drishyam: The Conclusion still holding screens, there isn't much room left to claw back.
What happens next is mostly arithmetic at this point, whether The Vvaan can stretch past Rs 65 crore before distributors move on to the next Friday's slate.
