Sidharth Malhotra's forest thriller dropped 63% from Sunday but still pulled ahead of the Hollywood re-release in both net collections and occupancy, per Sacnilk data.
Nobody had this on their bingo card. On Monday, Sidharth Malhotra's The Vvaan: Force of the Forest out-earned Avengers Endgame: Encore at the Indian box office, and it wasn't close.
According to data cited by Sacnilk and reported by DNA India, The Vvaan pulled in a net of Rs 5.25 crore from 7,012 shows on its fourth day. That's a 63.4% drop from Sunday's Rs 14.35 crore, which sounds brutal on paper. Except Avengers Endgame: Encore made just Rs 2.35 crore net from 3,633 shows the same day. Occupancy told the same story: The Vvaan held 19.63% against the Marvel re-release's 12.43%.
Do the math and The Vvaan's four-day India numbers stand at Rs 46.35 crore gross and Rs 38.85 crore net. Add Rs 50 lakh from overseas on Day 4, taking the international gross to Rs 4 crore, and the film's worldwide total sits at Rs 50.35 crore. Endgame: Encore, for context, has managed Rs 29.65 crore gross and Rs 24.80 crore net in India across its run so far.
There's a reading here that's bigger than one Monday's numbers. Endgame: Encore arrived with a $2.885 billion lifetime global tally behind it and the kind of nostalgia machine that usually prints money on re-release. The Vvaan had none of that weight, just Sidharth Malhotra headlining a jungle-set actioner alongside Tamannaah Bhatia, and reviews that were, by most trade accounts, mixed at best. And yet audiences in the smaller centres kept turning up for it while the Marvel crowd thinned out fast after opening weekend.
Whether this counts as Malhotra's first genuine post-pandemic theatrical win is still a week away from being settled. The film has exactly one clear week left before the multiplex map gets redrawn. Ajay Devgn's Drishyam: The Conclusion opens October 2, and early ticketing numbers already suggest a big first weekend for that one. Trade watchers reckon The Vvaan will lose a large chunk of its screens the moment Drishyam 3 lands, so this window between now and next Friday is really its last shot at padding the total.
For now, though, the film has done something a Marvel legacy title couldn't manage on an ordinary Monday in India. Whether that's a story about The Vvaan finding its audience in the interiors, or about how thin the appetite for a fourth Endgame release really was, depends on who in the trade you ask. Either way, the numbers over the next seven days, right up to Drishyam's collision with it, will tell us which reading holds up.
