Five days in, and The Vvaan – Force of the Forrest is doing the thing most films do after a shaky Monday: trying to talk itself back up. The Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia starrer added an estimated Rs 6 crore net in India on Tuesday, September 29, per figures tracked by Sacnilk. That's a 14.3 per cent bump over Monday's Rs 5.25 crore.
It's not a huge number on its own. But context matters here. The film opened on September 25 with Rs 8 crore, then rode the weekend up to Rs 11.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 14.35 crore on Sunday, only to see the usual first-Monday drop hit hard. Tuesday's small recovery suggests the fall wasn't the start of a slide, at least not yet.
Add it all up and The Vvaan has now made Rs 44.85 crore net in India across five days, with the gross figure sitting at Rs 53.45 crore. The film ran in 7,162 shows on Tuesday, still a wide spread for a film past its opening weekend. Overseas business stayed modest, Rs 50 lakh added on the day, pushing the total overseas gross to Rs 4.50 crore. Worldwide, the film sits at Rs 57.95 crore.
Here's the number that actually matters for the studio. Reports peg the production budget at around Rs 80 crore. At Rs 44.85 crore net domestic after five days, The Vvaan still has real distance to cover before anyone starts talking recovery, let alone profit. The next stretch, the rest of this week through the second Friday and Saturday, is where that gap either closes or the film settles into also-ran territory.
Critical reception hasn't done it many favours either. The Free Press Journal's review landed at 2.5 stars, calling out director Deepak Kumar Mishra's handling of what the reviewer described as a genuinely interesting premise. The verdict was blunt: strong visuals, a story with potential, direction that undercuts both. For Malhotra's fans specifically, the review said it's worth a watch. For everyone else, less of an endorsement.
That's the tension The Vvaan is sitting in right now. A concept with enough pull to get people into theatres on a Tuesday, wrapped in execution that reviewers keep flagging as the weak link. Whether word of mouth firms up or drags the film down over the coming days will decide if this second weekend looks anything like the first one.
For now, the film keeps its shows count high and its numbers moving in the right direction, however marginally. The real test starts Friday, when a second weekend either rescues an Rs 80 crore bet or confirms it was never going to clear that bar.
